In the small chance that we all might forget the approaching FPS juggernaut that is Halo: Reach, Microsoft and Bungie are debuting a commemorative monument online today, created by contributions from visitors to the site.
The Monument to Noble Team, the Spartan squad who bring the fight against invading Covenant forces, will be created by a robotic arm, whose movements are dictated by directions inputed by each visitor to the site.
How it works is thus: a small light is affixed to the end of the robotic arm, and its position during each movement will be captured by special camera equipment. Over the next three weeks those light pulses will combine to create a unique monument of light.
The site is due to go live around about 2pm today. You can check the countdown and wait for the fun to begin here.
[Update: the timer on the site has now started counting upwards. We're chasing up what's happening with the site and will update this story when we find out.]
Additional to this, the site will also host a series of live-action shorts by Noam Murro, who diredcted the "Birth of a Spartan" short back in April. They'll reportedly detail the lives of civilians and soldiers on the planet Reach prior to the Covenant invasion.
It's all sounding rather poignant. With the countdown to Bungie's last Halo game rapidly coming to a close, are you going to join in the memorial?
